Innovation Event Coordinator – Innovation Outside the Lab
  • 37.5 hours/week, 12-month contract with possibility of renewal  
  • $52,000 – $57,500 annual compensation range
  • This is a hybrid position (work remotely and work on location/Calgary office). Successful candidate must have the ability to travel (post-Covid) provincially on a regular basis as required

For more than 30 years, Sagesse has empowered individuals, organizations and communities to disrupt structures of abuse by curating environments to heal and develop skills to lead safe, healthy lives. With innovation as our programming cornerstone, we work for anyone who has experienced domestic abuse, including people who are at risk of being abused, informally support others, or are involved in sex work.   

We work in more than 50 communities across Alberta – either directly providing services or partnering with agencies to deliver programs on our behalf. This work includes intervention and prevention activities including peer support, capacity building and collective impact.

Our philosophy is to engage in curious, fierce conversations and collaborations and we see this as a path to ending domestic abuse.

About Innovation Outside the Lab

Alberta’s civil society plays a critical role in the overall well-being of all Albertans and addressing the many complex problems that affect citizens. Deep and sincere exploration of existing models of intervention and prevention are required to find opportunities for growth, innovation and adaptation to create stronger communities in Alberta.

Innovation Outside the Lab aims to shift thinking in the sector to investment in and engagement with entrepreneurship and innovation as a mindset and the cornerstone of everyday practice, perspectives and thinking. This initiative will build capacity of staff within organizations to engage in new practices and initiatives while also building organizational ability and models to ensure that innovation lives on within the sector long into the future.


  • Must be able to work remotely in a fast-paced, self-directed environment.
  • Experience planning events for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, exceptional attention to detail and ability to prioritize.
  • Post-secondary training in event management or equivalent, with some social services sector experience.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and other office technology.

Roles & Responsibilities

Innovation Cohort Member Engagement

  • Develop, with guidance, and lead the Innovation Outside the Lab Event project strategy and action plan.
  • Monitor, assess and report on strategy performance.

Innovation Cohort Event Management

  • Identify requirements and expectations for each event and liaise with vendors, exhibitors, and stakeholders.
  • Manage event set-up, tear down, and follow-up processes.
  • Anticipate and plan for different scenarios, including impacts from COVID-19.


  • Manage all communications with cohort members and disseminate and/or triage requests as applicable.
  • Actively plan and execute events in collaboration with the Communications team.
